Academically Talented
Dear BCS Families,
God has blessed each of us with unique minds, talents, and abilities. This year we want to explore each student’s creativity by introducing a new program at Borculo Christian School: The Academically Talented Program! We are very excited for the opportunities and challenges it will bring to all students. Here are some things to look forward to this year:
1. Learning Boxes- Each classroom has been equipped with a “Learning Box.” These learning boxes are filled with enrichment activities and games for students to complete in their free time or when directed by their teacher.
2. Thinking Outside the Box Days- One day each month we will dedicate an afternoon to “Thinking Outside the Box.” This will involve students engaging in strategic and logic types of games and activities within the classroom.
3. Creative Juice Competition- This year we will hold our first annual school-wide “Creative Juice” competition. Each year the academically talented (AT) committee will come up with a project for students to complete. The projects will then be judged by the AT committee and prizes will be awarded to the winners. This year’s project will be a tessellation art design—more info. to come!
4. Family Game Days-We will be having family game days on Saturdays: Nov. 15 and Feb. 28. Bring your children and learn how to play new, fun and challenging games like Gobblet, Qwirkle and SET, or old, fun and challenging games like Chess, Checkers, and Cribbage. Grandparents are welcome too!
5. Game Club- This will be an afterschool game club for those interested. It will begin in Nov. and run through Feb. We are looking for volunteers to help run this program; if you are interested let one of the AT committee members know.
Parents & grandparents, the AT committee needs your help to make this new program a success. We are looking for volunteers to help organize some of these events, teach students how to play the games, make snacks, and donate your slightly used games such as Boggle, Chess, Checkers, etc. If you can help in one of these areas please contact one of the committee members: Mrs. Studebaker, Mrs. VanHuis, or Mrs. Thomasma.
Let Your Creativity Flow,
The AT Committee
